Therapy in Philadelphia, PA
You have noticed for a while that when you are around other people you take things personally, you don’t feel confident, you second guess yourself or find yourself replaying different situations you’ve been in over and over again. You aren’t “anti-social”, in fact you really want to BE social, but every time an opportunity comes up for you to do something you either need someone else to go with you or you talk yourself out of going.
Struggling with Relationship Anxiety in Philadelphia, PA?
It has been a long time since you have been on a date or had what felt like a healthy relationship. You are starting to think that you will never find someone. When you think about getting on dating apps or going out on dates the second guessing, overthinking and self-criticism begin.
Navigating Relationship Challenges?
For some time you have thought that everyone feels this way or that this is just who you are. People around you tell you to “get yourself out there or you won’t make friends” or “the right person will come along at the right time” but as time goes on you are thinking that there is no way to get out there or the right time won’t ever come. You have decided that it is time to find someone to talk to who might understand what you are going through.
My name is Maggie, I am a Therapist in Philadelphia, PA and I Want to Help
Maggie Blackburn Therapist in Philadelphia Specializing in Social and Relationship Anxiety
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who specializes in helping people with social anxiety, relationship anxiety, and the challenges that come with wanting deeper connection while feeling held back by fear, worry, or self-doubt.
In therapy, we work together to move beyond simply telling yourself to "just get out there." Instead, we explore what is creating the anxiety, understand the patterns that keep you feeling stuck, and build tools that allow you to approach relationships and social situations with more confidence.
The therapeutic relationship is an important part of this work. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe being honest about your fears, experiences, and challenges without judgment.
Together, we explore the situations that leave you replaying conversations, second-guessing yourself, avoiding opportunities, or feeling disconnected from the relationships you want.
What to Expect in Therapy
Typically, clients meet with me weekly to explore current challenges and how they connect to their therapy goals. I use your feedback and experiences to guide treatment and determine which approaches will be most helpful for you.
I integrate different therapeutic approaches based on your individual needs, including mindfulness, anxiety-focused strategies, trauma-informed approaches, and Brainspotting when appropriate.
Mindfulness in therapy does not have to mean sitting still and meditating for hours. We focus on practical ways to become more present, connected, and aware of your thoughts, emotions, and experiences in everyday life.
Therapy can help you feel less controlled by anxiety, more confident in your relationships, and more connected to the life you want to create.

The terms “psychologist” and “therapist” are often used interchangeably, but they refer to different roles and levels of training.
Psychologists typically hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in psychology and has undergone extensive training in psychological assessments, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health disorders.
On the other hand, a therapist can refer to a broader category of professionals who provide therapy or counseling services. Therapist may have different educational backgrounds and credentials, including Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs) which is what my license is, or Licensed professional counselors (LPCs), Marriage and family therapists (MFTs), or another degree. While these therapists are also trained in therapy and counseling techniques they can also have many other backgrounds and specializations. -
Deciding if you need a therapist depends on various factors such as your emotional well-being, knowledge of coping skills, and the impact of your experiences on your daily life functioning. You might consider seeking therapy if you’re experiencing persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, stress, or if you’re facing challenges that feel too overwhelming or difficult to manage along. It is a good idea to consult with a mental health professional who can assess your situation and recommend the appropriate support or treatment options. The cost of therapy can vary depending on several factors, including the therapist’s credentials, experience, specialization and the type of therapy they provide. On average, therapy sessions in Philadephia can range from $75 to $200 or more per session.
Some therapists may offer sliding fees based on income and many are able to bill your health insurance to offset the cost of therapy. It is essential to check with your insurance provider to understand your coverage and any out-of-pocket expenses you may incur.
Many non-profit organizations, community mental health centers and universities may also offer low-cost or even free therapy services.
For sessions with me, at this time I am unable to bill any insurances for sessions but would be happy to provide a receipt for services so you can get out-of-network reimbursement from your health insurance provider.
Sessions with me cost $200 for the initial intake session and $150 for a 45-55 minute session either individually or in a couple.
